In SW2009, when you access the appearances (except from the task pane), the appearances task pane flies out. Is there a setting inside of Solidworks to keep this from flying out? Call me old school, but i just use the feature manager and don’t use the task pane for appearances. Let me know. Thanks.

if you undock the task pane it doesnt do it. You could place it on a second screen if you have dual screen setup. You can turn the task pane off altogether but then you’d miss out on SolidJott

Is there a way to run an internet browser in the task pane, the same way SolidJott runs as an add-in? I notice i was able to navigate like a browser within SolidJott, but don’t have an address bar to further browse the internet.

The addin for SolidJott actually places a web browser in the task pane. I coded the web browser to go to SolidJott.com upon startup. (Home Page) As such, it can browse to any web page on the internet as long as there is a link. An address bar could be added and implemented if the community decides that is what it wants. Thanks John. I was actually able to drag and drop the internet address short cut for google.com into SolidJott in the task pane, and now have google.com displayed in it’s place. It may prove useful as a time saver, so thanks for putting me on the scent.

      VM,
Do you still have SolidJott in the task pane after you do that or is it replaced by the Google window?

If SJ is still there then how did you do what you did?

This would be a real handy shortcut for me.

      Regards,
      Brian

SolidJott is completely replaced by google or whatever internet shortcut your dragging and dropping into the task pane.
It will not work if you drag the shortcut over the solidworks graphics area and into the task pane. The shortcut has to move directly from the browser window into the task pane.

      OK Thats what I thought.
It would be nice if we could toggle back and forth though.

FWIW you should be able to drag and drop a zip file (With solidworks file(s) in it) or a SW file from the SolidJott task pane to the graphics area and have it download and open automatically….

Tank Ewe! If you like it now wait until I get enough loot to develop this addin further. Leave a tip and or tell a SW person about this addin if you like it. (Tips can be left with the donate button on the right hand sidebar)

Things have changed slightly. Chris pointed out to me that we should have 3D content central as well. So under the heading “‘Handy’ Links” there is google and 3D content central

How do we create a plug-in such as this, so that we can go to our internal resources? We would like to link to our standards, PLM help and our own community.

Thanks for all that you do in the blogosphere.

What I have done in the past is enabled the Web toolbar. You can than copy the link to whichever folders or documents you want and paste them in there.
It’s a workaround if you don’t know how to program something like the SolidJott addin.
The only drawback is I believe you’re only limited to 5 or 6 addresses.

I would be more than happy to work with you to develope a simular tool like the one I did for SolidJott. I am currently working on tools that link to SharePoint, Made2Manage and SAP.

John looks like you will be able to get some more work from your outstanding efforts here at SolidJott.

I HIGHLY recommend John for his hard work….

Thanks for the replies. We still have to get ourselves organized as to what we are going to link to. Once we know what we want we will get with you to see what we can can get accomplished.
