hi, Please I need help regarding, how ca…

    hi,
Please I need help regarding, how can I create a customize view on the 3D Assembly model. This assembly has angle geometric parts I need to create an auxiliary view using an angle part but in the drawing view I cannot select the geometry and idea is if I can create this type of auxiliary view in 3D Assembly Model. Any other suggestion can it help as soon as possible. Thank you.

Salbu … You need to spend a lot more time reading the Help files.
“To add a custom named view to the Orientation dialog box:” (hit the spacebar)
      http://help.solidworks.com/2011/English/solidworks/sldworks/legacyhelp/sldworks/display/hidd_select_named_view.htm

Thank you.I didn’t aks about standard orientation view, was about custom view…anyway thank you the Help is change a lot from 2009 now it is more complete but sometimes same informations are incomplete in my case for example is missing the examples.I will dig more in your informations may be in time somebody will have time and patience for creating a video example regarding my issue because I think this issue is important for many users of SW.Thanks I appreciate.

Hello Every Body. Can I draw a Landscape…

    Hello Every Body.
Can I draw a Landscape scene, or an uneven hillside in solidworks ? I’ve tried all the surface features, nothing seems to work.
    Thanks in advance.

I made a video of how I do it a few years back here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjOo9d1KJUM remember that the max size of a solidworks model is 1Kilometer qubed

    • CBL 7:01 pm on September 28, 2010 Permalink

      qubed? :o )

While the 1KM cube limit is still true for parts, assys can be much larger.

Is there anywhere in Solidworks that will put a hole for a countersunk square neck bolt. I would think that the hole wizard feature would have this but I can’t seem to find it.

    • CBL 4:47 pm on August 10, 2010 Permalink

HW does not have that style hole. You will have to create it with regular SW features.

In a die design I have some models that will have wire-cut openings. My models show the wire-cut profiles but in the drawing file I add a sketched circle to show where to drill a start hole for threading the wire. The model also has tapped holes and such that I call out in a hole table. Is there a way to add the sketched circles to my hole table?

    • AnnaWood 10:59 am on June 27, 2010 Permalink

      Mike,

You need to model like you are going to manufacture. In other words, model in the wire starts, then add your cavities. Then create two configurations of your part, one for Milling and one for the Final part. You set up your hole chart to the Milling configuration.

Here is a link to a blog post I did on the subject a couple years ago. There is a SW2007 you can look at.

      http://www.solidmuse.com/2007/02/modeling-for-manufacturing.html

I will look around and post an example or two of some parts and drawings so you can see how we detail these types of parts.

      Cheers,

      Anna

      Mike,

      http://visualvault.auerprecision.com/ViewFile.aspx?DlID=2bcf4702-7383-452d-99e1-0ade51e9210a

Here is a link to some examples files of production die details that we send to our shop. We manufacture everything we design.

The single sheet details have two plan views overlaid and Aligned By Origin, Vert and Horz. See views 1 and 5. One plan view shows the Milled configuration the other shows the Default configuration. Hide the Default view and set view focus on the Milled view, then create your hole chart from that.

There is another example of a two sheet drawing with the Milled configuration shown on sheet 2. To get around the holes running into each other I use the same technique. Views 4 and 7 are overlaid. I have three configurations in that file.

I hide lines in the views as needed to get the views looking like I want.

Once you get used to modeling for manufacturing, it becomes second nature and is not that much extra work. Actually, it is the only way you will be able to show wire starts in a hole chart.

      Cheers,

      Anna

We are looking for a way to add a descriptor to each dimension value on a drawing. This is for inspection purposes so that we can refer to dimension “C” on the inspection document and it is easily recognizable on the drawing. Is there a way to type in the letter “C” in the Dimension and have it encircled or in a box or in a triangle or whatever?

    • RAD007 4:37 pm on May 18, 2010 Permalink

Add a symbol to the dimension text:
With the dimension selected, click in the text field of the property manager where you’d like the “TAG”. Then click the “More” button immediately below the field and select any of the flag symbols from the library drop down. “Flag Cir A-Z” allows you to select symbols just as you requested. You only have 26 different inspections symbols with letters. I personally use “Flag Squ 1-99″ which gives me 99 inspections.

We received a bunch of drw files from a customer for quoting. Since it’s just a quote they didn’t give us models, only drw files. Does anyone know how I can open these files in Quick View mode to print using Task Scheduler?

    • CBL 12:55 pm on May 15, 2010 Permalink

I’m assuming you mean the SolidWorks .slddrw drawing format files. If so you will not be able to open them unless they have been saved in the “Detached” format. This allows not having to have the solid models available.

A better option would be to ask for the drawings to be saved in the eDrawing format. Then you will have access to the 3D model as well as the 2D drawings.

    • gupta9665 9:11 pm on May 16, 2010 Permalink

You can open them with SolidWorks viewer or edrawings and print.

    • mclosson 3:10 am on May 17, 2010 Permalink

Thanks for the replies. But I need to do this with Task Scheduler as there are maybe 200 files. As usual we are third or fourth down the food chain and going back and asking for more files or in another format is next to impossible.

    • CBL 10:56 am on May 17, 2010 Permalink

First of all, can you open and read the “drw” files in ANY program? If you can’t then you won’t be able to make prints … period.

    • mclosson 12:39 pm on May 17, 2010 Permalink

Yes, I can open them with SW in Quick View and see the intended sheet but all you can do is look and/or print.

    • CBL 4:50 pm on May 17, 2010 Permalink

I don’t have PDM so can not batch print from Task Scheduler, but their are various Batch Print macros “out there”.

Not sure why you are using Quick View, but if you the files can be opened in SW, why not just group select them in a Windows window, and select Print from the RMB menu?

    • gupta9665 12:52 am on May 18, 2010 Permalink

What if you don’t select quick view option while opening them. If you getting crossed boxes instead of a view then you don’t have detached drawings. If this is the case, then I doubt if you can use the Task Scheduler. You can use a macro instead which will open the drawing in quick view mode, print & close them and repeat the process for next drawing.

Can you run SW2010 on Win7 Home editions, or do you have to have a Professional edition?

    • CBL 5:20 pm on April 30, 2010 Permalink

Some people have been able to install and run SW on Home editions without problems. But if you have any problems (and you probably will) you will not get any support from your VAR other than “That is not a supported OS. We cannot help you”.

Silly question: Our drawing format is pulling a value for the part material ($PRPSHEET: “material”). How/where do I change this value?

    • Brian 11:22 am on April 7, 2010 Permalink

In the part or assembly file that is placed in the first view on that sheet.

    • gupta9665 8:48 pm on April 7, 2010 Permalink

What exactly you mean by change value. Do you want to link it to something different or you want to change the material. If you want to change the material then change it for the part/assembly which this drawing is referring to. Else edit the note ($PRPSHEET: “material”) and change to whatever you need.

I have already applied service pack 2 to SW10. Now I see this about SW pulling it back. Should I/Can I roll mine back to SP1?
    IF so, how?

    • CBL 5:38 am on January 21, 2010 Permalink

Are you running Vist x64 or Win 7 x64? Do you have PhotoWorks?
If you are there is no point in rolling back to SP1 … the problem exists with it and SW2009-SP5 also. Just apply the relevant hotfix.

Meantime, do not activate or use PhotoWorks; that is the trigger.

    • CBL 5:56 am on January 21, 2010 Permalink

      Sorry, that should have been;

Do you have PhotoWorks? If yes, don’t use it..

Ok Guys, I’ve got a problem with this part. I want to pattern Extrude2 around Extrude1 but nothing I try works like I want it to. I’m going for a “ripple effect” on the outside of my part. Seems this would be a natrual curve driven pattern but like I said – it’s not working for me and I don’t know why not. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

I certainly do seem to have problems with that. I’ll try it through the website.Attachment – toothbrushholder01

    • JMitchell 11:47 am on December 20, 2009 Permalink

Well I took a different approach to the problem this morning and got the curve driven pattern to work. Evidently that command doesn’t work well with ellipses? Regardless I now have a new problem and I know this has to be easy as hell to do but what I want to do is cut extrude the inside out of it. I can shell it but that’s not what I’m after. I want a smooth inside surface (without the pattern) and since I used arcs to construct the initial sketch I want to reuse that existing geometry but the program doesn’t like anything I try to do towards that end.Attachment – toothbrushholder02

    • CBL 12:09 pm on December 20, 2009 Permalink

Create the shell before adding the grooves.

    • CBL 12:54 pm on December 20, 2009 Permalink

BTW, in this case the Offset Curve option gives a better result than the Transform Curve option.

    • JMitchell 5:58 pm on December 20, 2009 Permalink

Well CBL, I finally got it done. It may not be exactly right as far as the dimensions go but it’s a pretty reasonable facsimile of the real thing. The dome had me scratchin’ my head for awhile but I figured that out too. Thanks for the tips!Attachment – toothbrushholder021

    • CBL 9:19 pm on December 20, 2009 Permalink

      That looks good. I have two suggestions though;
      1) Move the Extrude3 feature (bottom recess) above the Shell feature. The bottpm is very thin.
      2) As suggested before, use the Offset Curve option (instead of the Transform function) to keep the grooves symmetric around the profile. To see the difference the options make, look at the Top View when changing the options .

    • JMitchell 8:25 am on December 21, 2009 Permalink

Thanks CBL, I took your suggestions and moved the Extrude3 feature above the Shell. I also had noticed that the bottom was thin but hadn’t thought of moving the features around to “fix it”. I also used the Offset Curve option for the CrvPattern – a small difference but it helps. Thanks for your help and suggestions – appreciate it. I’ll learn this damn software yet! Next up – the matching soap dish. Wish me luck.
