Driveworks – “Dummy” Problem with sub-project.

    Hi all,

I have a problem with alternative with DriveWorks.

I have a master project and 4 sub-projects who are slave of my master project.

In my master project, I select my 5 sub-projects to be generated.

    Lets name my sub-project General, Part1, Part2 and Part3.

In my General project, I have three “dummies” assemblies (part 1, part2, part3). When generating my master project, everything goes OK… the dummies are being replaced by my projects part1, 2 and 3.

But, the problem is that after the generation, DW still have the “Part1-Dummy” , “Part2-Dummy” and “Part2-Dummy” to generated. So when I’m using auto-pilot, the server goes over and over again and generated a reports every seconds that I have to delete manually. (I have a macro for doing it).

Do I have this problem because I’m replacing “dummy” assembly with “projet”? Or it’s because my Part1, part2 and part3 projects are on the same level that my General projet?

    Hope someone can help me.

Note: I’m still using DW SP6

      Hi

You want to go to your reseller and ask them for the latest service pack of DriveWorks. Similar issues to yours were solved with the later service packs. Ask for service pack 8

Wish I could be of help, but I’ve never used DriveWorks.

    SolidWorks background processes? I’m…

    SolidWorks background processes?

I’m somewhat new to SolidWorks. I’ve found recently that sometimes SolidWorrks (2009 SP1) will just launch and start “dissecting” in the background.

What is this? How do I stop it?

Screenshot: (It also will open parts – files that I don’t recognize as mine.)

Check out Dissect and/or Clipart in the Help files. I’m sure there are some people who use the function but, IMO, it is a useless waste of resources.

It can be disabled via Tools > Options > System Options > Search — Dissection

I was using the fillet xpert and now it is grayed out or went away as an option. What gives? What makes this happen. Is it because I made soem surfaces solid?

    • JeffM 7:23 am on June 12, 2009 Permalink

I’ve never seen or heard of this. Can you describe what you were doing when it happened? Is it happening globally or just on one model?

    • grantmi1 7:46 am on June 12, 2009 Permalink

@charlesculp answered me on twitter with this. FilletXpert only works on parts with one config. so you won’t see it on multi-config parts.

I did not know this. Basically the tab can’t be selected and it is grayed out if you have more than one config.

I suspect you will need to contact SW about this it sounds like a login issue. Maybe try another computer and see if you can login on it.

    SolidJott Plugin for SolidWorks !

It’s Here! It’s Here! Raise the Banners and Sound the Trumpets It’s Here!

SolidWorks help when you need it where you need it.

    Screen Capture

The SolidJott plugin for SolidWorks is here. Download this FILE here install and have fun. You will need to create a account here at SolidJott, it is quick and painless, and when you open the addin in SolidWorks you will need to login to post to the SolidJott help center but otherwise you can look around without logging in. Attached is a quick screen capture of what you will be presented with in SolidWorks. Note: Remember to switch the view preferences to ‘SolidWorks View’ on the right hand side of the window when in SolidWorks, if you cannot see the right hand side there is a slider at the bottom of the pane to allow you to scroll over to it.

Here is the premise you need help or can help someone with a SolidWorks problem but switching between windows such as SolidWorks and your email client, to a web form, a word document, or other software to capture the question or to offer a answer can be a painful laborious task. You can quickly loose context in what you are trying to capture in this method. Using SolidJott however you open the sidebar tab, login, and voila! Help while in SolidWorks! without loosing context! You can then communicate with some of the top experts in SolidWorks community right within SolidWorks.

But there’s more… It slices, it dices, it makes julienne fries… Ok maybe not fries just yet but future developments will include A button to send a screen capture to the post and a button to ‘pack and go’ the file(s) you are working on currently and send to post to make things even easier in describing problems or solutions.

This addin will be provided for free to anyone who would like the service.

PLEASE let me use FIREFOX as the browser. My Company will not allow us to use IE too prone to Virus attack). If I can’t use FF then tell me how to UNINSTALL the program !

    • admin 2:18 pm on December 30, 2008 Permalink

No it is currently not an option. When I have enough people that want this functionality I will work on it. Seeing as this is currently a free addin and I finance this out of my own pocket and donations if you want this badly enough donate to the project (on the right column) and if there is enough demand with enough capital generated then I will make it happen

To uninstall double click the exe file a second time and choose ‘uninstall’

When will Solidworks allow for me to link my part’s custom property revision with the drawing revision table’s current revision?

    • RodUding 11:18 am on November 24, 2008 Permalink

I a agree Charles, a revision should be tied to the model and the drawing. Seems like it would be pretty straight forward to do so. I alway’s wondered about why it was separate.

    • solidsmack 12:16 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

It probably because some may have multiple models on the drawing. Should be an option though.

There is one possibility. When I rev the cuwhat about tying the drawing rev property to the View?

    • CharlesCulp 2:29 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

I’ve always wanted it to be tied to the configuration specific custom property. When would one configuration have two drawings?

    • gol10dr 4:00 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

This is one of the main reasons that PDM comes into play. Revision management gets hairy with custom properties and references. There are integrations in Workgroup PDM for this as well. There are reasons to have them separate but it would be nice to link. Everyone does revision management different.

    • brian 11:47 pm on December 6, 2008 Permalink

I just use a custom property for revision and don’t use the revision table. Everything in my revision block is populated from custom properties.
