Since SW08, a regression in table positioning has been found. The stationary corner is not saved to the template like it was in 2007 and before.
This results in possibly having to change the table orientation if your table isn’t in one of the 4 corners.
IE. I have a revision table that is inserted near bottom middle of our title block. I cannot save the rev block table orientation (top left) to the template. It always gets inserted into the drawing with bottom right orientation.

If this affects you, submit a service request through your VAR with SPR 464547 attached to it.

Can PDMWorks Workgroup manage revisions for Autocad drawings like it does for SolidWorks documents?
I’m migrating our electrical schematic drawings (all done in acad) to our PDM vault and am hoping it does.

Yes, PDMWW can manage non-SolidWorks files like Office files or AutoCAD data. You can even have the attributes from a dwg file map over to PDMWorks properties.

      Thanks Kevin.
I knew about the attributes which is handy, just unsure of how it handled revisions with non SW files.

I also realized I should have had “Allow latest revision overwrite” unchecked this whole time if I want to open previous revisions.

My 2009 PDMW is hosed after upgrade from 2008. I find attachments no longer check out with the parent document. ie my .dxf files dont check out with my .sldprt Solidworks is working on my vault data now to try to resolve? anyone else see this?

Have you noticed if any settings changed after the upgrade? Might want to look at the Check Out/Open options, http://screencast.com/t/GdYeMgdp, in PDMWorks settings.
The screenshot is from 08, I haven’t moved up to 09 just yet so it may differ.

No settings changed, SW Corp can’t figure out why yet? for now I must maually get any files that should be attachments.

I’ll be making the switch soon, I’ll report if I see anything similar.

Solidworks did reproduce the problem as a regression from 2008 to 2009. They’ve also given us an SPR number for this particular problem:

This seems to be a regression for 2008 to 2009. It is not always repeatable on a second attempt. Clearing the working directory, closing SolidWorks, restarting the pdmworks service and retesting will repeat the error. The SPR is: 467559 “ SolidWorks Workgroup PDM Check-Out does not recognize attachment revision when using “Get latest” resulting in error/ failed check out.”

When will Solidworks allow for me to link my part’s custom property revision with the drawing revision table’s current revision?

I a agree Charles, a revision should be tied to the model and the drawing. Seems like it would be pretty straight forward to do so. I alway’s wondered about why it was separate.

    • solidsmack 12:16 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

It probably because some may have multiple models on the drawing. Should be an option though.

There is one possibility. When I rev the cuwhat about tying the drawing rev property to the View?

    • CharlesCulp 2:29 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

I’ve always wanted it to be tied to the configuration specific custom property. When would one configuration have two drawings?

This is one of the main reasons that PDM comes into play. Revision management gets hairy with custom properties and references. There are integrations in Workgroup PDM for this as well. There are reasons to have them separate but it would be nice to link. Everyone does revision management different.

I just use a custom property for revision and don’t use the revision table. Everything in my revision block is populated from custom properties.
