So some of you may have been getting errors on my site and I have identified the problem and am working on a fix. It is not malicious it is merely a Javascript coding error that has been identified. Please be patient and cross your fingers Google gives me a green light.

In the mean time the plugin for this site will no longer function and unless I receive more donations to re-develop it, it will remain not functioning. I apologize for the issues and will update as soon as the funding is available

    Photoworks error…

Photoworks rendering…. I get a “This model is too big for rendering’ error never had that before and do not know what to do with it to get the render. So what settings to I need to tweek?

Might be time to give 360 a go….

    • Chris Serran 5:34 pm on June 18, 2009 Permalink

PV360 may be the answer, but last I heard it doesn’t take advantage of x64 if you’re running it on that system. However, the SP3 release of PV360 seems to be able to handle larger assemblies better than before.
I have a large assembly that simply wouldn’t render in SP2 and under but now with SP3 I can do it in rather high quality settings…it just takes 10 hours :)

Errors with SolidJott addin. Sorry folks, we at SolidJott were not expecting the curve ball that Internet explorer has thrown us with their updates and new security measures. We are working dilligently on fixing the errors and will have a new addin and fix shortly. I do appologize for the inconvinience and hope that you will bear with us during the growing pains.

Known Issue with 2009 PDM WorkGroup.
If planning to run any process using SW task scheduler. you must first turn off your PDMW addin in Solidworks or process will fail due to vault login permissions problem.
SW Task Schedule for vault must run as pdmwadmin and your addin login might be only user level. See open SPR list below.

SPR 453697: PDM Workgroup Task Scheduler fails to login when both SolidWorks 2008 and 2009 are installed

SPR 466710: 2009 Task Scheduler fails to remove PDM Workgroup add-in when running tasks

Thanks for the warning. Is there a SR# we can all go to and hassle SW to fix this?

So you’re saying that I need to disable the addin even if I’m running a process on the Vault?

    • whynotdesign3d 10:14 pm on January 6, 2009 Permalink

Yes, until SolidWorks fixes what they broke.

When I start SolidWorks I get a error.
    —————————
    COSMOSWorks
    —————————
    Failed to create parametric component
    —————————
    OK
    —————————

    Thoughts?

    • tleedz 9:55 am on December 5, 2008 Permalink

Could you explain this in any more detail?! Maybe it needs to be installed again?

    • admin 10:05 am on December 5, 2008 Permalink

Not really. Cosmos works fine has been installed since the beginning. I recently have been working on it for the first time since I had it installed (first time in many years). Now I have it loading with SW instead of activating it everytime thru the addin menu.

Ill try a Uninstall-Reinstall next week.

I was hoping there would be a quicker fix to this than that…

    • Chris Serran 10:55 am on December 5, 2008 Permalink

I believe I recall a post on the forums by Gabi Jack saying she was getting that message.
Maybe she can give some insight to this issue?

    • brian 11:23 am on December 5, 2008 Permalink

I get this message when running Simulation thru the add-in menu. It has done it ever since I installed 2009 new.

I haven’t figured it out, but Simulation seems to run fine after dismissing the dialogue. I was thinking that it might be something with SWx64…

    • admin 2:08 pm on December 5, 2008 Permalink

Nope this is on a 32 bit machine. Thanks for the heads up tho Brian

    • sluder 11:03 pm on December 5, 2008 Permalink

It’s because you have two versions of COSMOS/Simulation installed at the same time (ie 2008 and 2009). Here is the fix SW told me to do (it worked for me):

      ————————————-

      1) Search the drive with SolidWorks installations on it for the file
      parametricobject.dll

      2) Note the folder that each dll which shows up in the list is located.
You will have to determine which installation folder corresponds to
which version of SolidWorks. If you have multiple folders showing up
called SolidWorks (2) for example, you can find out which version it is
by searching for the file sldworks.exe and launching it to see which
      version of SolidWorks starts.

      3) Make sure SolidWorks is closed and access the command prompt. Type:

      regsvr32 “[path to dll]”

In the above sample, [path to dll] would be replaced with the exact
location of the parametricobject.dll for the version you wish to use.
For example if you desired to use 2008, you would enter the path to the
parametricobject.dll in your 2008 installation directory:

      regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\COSMOSWorks\ParametricObject.dll”

This will ensure that the correct version of the dll is registered for
the version of COSMOSWorks you will be using once you start SolidWorks.
You may have to do this every time since dll’s can become registered and
      unregistered frequently.

      —————————————

I hope this makes sense. Feel free to contact me.

    • sluder 12:15 am on December 6, 2008 Permalink

One more thing, the reason the COSMOS/Simulation seems to run fine is because the you are not trying to set up “Parameters” that are used in “Design Scenerios”.

    • admin 8:03 am on December 6, 2008 Permalink

Thanks Phil you are a rock star!!!!

    • brian 5:05 pm on December 6, 2008 Permalink

Thanks for the info, Phil! I don’t have both versions installed, but it is probably something left over from the 2008 uninstall. I will check this on my box at work Monday.

    • resodad 7:08 pm on March 31, 2009 Permalink

      Phil,
Thanks for the tip. It looks like a conflict between COSMOSWorks and COSMOSXpress in my case. Now I can do design scenarios.

    Tags: DWG, error, Memory

I’m running sw 2008 sp4 on vista with 4 gig ram. every time I try to save as a dwg (autocad) I get the following message:

Solidworks is unable to obtain the required memory. Please attempt to free some memory and then press retry, or press cancel to terminate your solidworks session.

This is very frustrating. Any ideas what is wrong?

I also get some problems when saving as a pdf. If it is a large assembly, it craps out and I only get the bottom half of the image.

    • Chris Serran 6:46 am on November 27, 2008 Permalink

      How large are your assemblies?

I'd suggest when working in SW to have any unnecessary programs and all the bells and whistles of Vista turned off.

    • dave spencer 8:59 am on November 27, 2008 Permalink

Not very large in the grand scheme of things. over 6 parts and it is a crapshoot whether or not a pdf will come out or not. I have a workaround for that- I have always had success saving as a tiff and turning it into a pdf in photoshop. It is a PITA but it works.

I have no workaround for the DWG short of emailing all files to a very generous friend who converts the files for me.
As far as bells and whistles in vista are concerned; I have most shut down. I can do a full boot up, only start SW and it still fails every time.

I truly don't believe this has anything to do with a lack of memory.

    • Jeff Mirisola 7:08 am on November 28, 2008 Permalink

Actually, it probably does have to do with memory, but let's back up. Which version of Vista are you running and is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
Also, which graphics card are you using? If you're running a low(er) end card, it may be pulling memory from your RAM to refresh your screen.
I'm not 100% sure it applies to Vista, but do a google search for the 3 GB switch. On 32-bit XP, RAM allocation is increased with the switch and it does improve SW performance.

    • Chris Serran 7:46 am on November 28, 2008 Permalink

Monitor the performance on the Task Manager to see if it's running out of memory.
Are you on a laptop or desktop computer? My laptop has a tendancy to over heat and will cut out, same specifications as you. A cooling pad helped that.
Other possible issues that come to mind is faulty RAM chip or insufficient power supply.

    • behnt 8:12 am on November 28, 2008 Permalink

Trust me on this one guys, I know Dave well. I have also taken the assembly and saved it out no problem on my machine. Even on a virtual machine with 512gb and a simulated video card with other apps running. There is more going on than his resources. I am 100% sure his machine should do this.

That being said, Dave do a memory check ( google for a open source memory tester) and see if there is faulty memory.

    • dave spencer 8:45 am on November 28, 2008 Permalink

I'm running 32 bit vista home premium.
My computer runs very cool but I have shut it down for a while and tried to no avail.
It is a laptop so it does not have the best of graphic cards, this may be the problem here. I have just tried adjusting the settings for low quality / optimal perfomance but no dice.
It probably is not bad memory because I had the problem with 1 gig of ram so I went and replaced it with 4 gigs.
I have a system resource monitor on my side bar and it does not peak out the memory while saving.

Thanks to all who are trying to help and thanks to Ben for putting up such a cool site.

    • CBL 8:26 am on November 29, 2008 Permalink

“I'm running 32 bit vista home premium.”

That could be part of the problem. SW is not supported on any of the Home versions of Windows.

      Note (11) at http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/SystemRequ... states;
“(11) Windows Vista Ultimate, Business and Enterprise editions only. SP0 or higher.”

    • dave spencer 9:05 pm on November 29, 2008 Permalink

Well I guess that must be the problem CBL. Thanks.

I guess I’ll have to wait until windows 7 because I’m sure not going to put any money into upgrading Vista.

    • CBL 11:04 am on November 30, 2008 Permalink

Then you should at least try the /3GB switch as Jeff Mirisola suggested. If it is memory related it should help.

Is this PDMWorks Workgroup or Enterprise?

If Workgroup, is it greyed out in the vault? I’ve had a case where a file has been deleted but still stuck around in the vault view. After a restart of the server service it went away.

    • imaninja 2:47 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

Workgroup. It isnt greyed out in the vault. I restarted the vault and it did not correct the issue. I really appreciate your help. Oh, this is with about the files so far. It always happens when i need the file. too.

    • cserran 2:59 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

Is it referenced to any other assembly? Try opening that assembly and see if it comes across that way.
Also, see if another user is having the same issue with that file.

    • gol10dr 3:54 pm on November 24, 2008 Permalink

Go into the Vault Admin tool and check the options to rebuild and validate the tree before you restart the vault process on the server. This is one thing I always do before looking at the actual files. In 2009 it is called “Validate Vault” and you can pick next startup.

    • Kevin 12:17 pm on November 25, 2008 Permalink

Within Workgroup PDM 2009, I have seen this pop up recently where a client (SW Explorer) is at SP1 but the PDM Server application is at SP0. Make sure that your PDM Server is up to SP1 as well by going to Help, About SolidWorks Workgroup PDM within the SolidWorks GUI. You can obtain the updated PDM Server program through the Customer Portal.

I have this issue as an open SR 1-1056086811 with SolidWorks. I have sent them my vault to try to resolve this issue. No attachment files will checkout properly and I get this error, even though the file attachment exists. I can then check out the file in question by itself no problem.
