I’m using 3D annotations to place an angular dimension in an assembly to monitor the angle between two components. currently when I place the dimension i am getting the compliment of the angle that I want (exp i want it to display 30deg and it is displaying 150deg). Is there any way to change the display of the angular dimension? I have not found it in the options

Have you tried hitting the tab key when placing the dimension? Or after it is placed right clicking and seeing if there are any options? Right click and choose dimension properties see what is in there, Last thing to test is the selection order i.e. if you selected clock wise try counter clock wise or even end points vs lines….. Just taking a stab at it without SW

I can’t seem to get annotations to “attach” to views and follow them around. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes an annotation gets attached to a view that I don’t want it attached to. Can somebody explain the procedure for doing all of this correctly. SW2008
    Thanks

When you move across views you may notice that a box highlights around it. This means whichever view is highlighted is activated.
Whenever you insert an annotation it will be attached to whichever view is highlighted.
You can right click on a view and select “Lock View Focus” this will keep that view activated and any notes inserted will move with that view.
A view doesn’t have to be locked to insert annotations, although sometimes it helps.

KALJAM, as Chris states above you are having a view linking issue. The best way to be assured the annotation goes into the view you want it to be associated with is to double click the view which activates the view. You will see a pink box around the view. Any annotation you place while the pink box is on the view will be attached to that view. This also works for placing annotations and notes on the drawing sheet as you can activate just the sheet and not a view. Once you are finished placing annotations, just double click on the sheet format and the pink box will disappear. Hope this helps,

I have a 3D sketch in an assembly with a line at a compound angle relative to the primary planes and two additional projections lines starting at the first point of the line. 1 representing the Z direction, the other representing the projection on to the XZ plane of the compound angle line. I want to create assembly annotation dimensions between the lines to show the projected angles and the true angle. When I create the dimensions (annotation) I am given an angle of 177deg. I want it to display 3deg instead. Is there any way to change this display?

Are you in a drawing? If you are when you click on the annotation / dimension you will find that on the left you have a dialog in the property manager that will allow you to change the text. It will no longer be parametric though.

No, I’m in an assembly using the standard dimension tool which creates dimensions as “annotations”. I know I can override the value but this sketch is parametric and I need it to update and show the updated angles automatically. I already have the dimensions in the 3D sketch but can’t get them to show all the time. If that is possible it would be a solution for me. Any ideas?

      Thanks for the comment

When in the assembly, right click on the Annotations folder and select “Show Feature Dimensions”. This will show the dimensions from the 3D sketch, unfortunately it will show all the dimensions from the other parts as well.

      Thanks Chris!

This is exactly what I needed. Since it is in an assembly, this is the only “feature” and thus they are the only dims that show up.

      Thanks!
