    Hi people.
Does anyone knows, if there is any SolidWorks 2012 mold tools enhancements?

    Hello all.
Does anyone know how to do a curve like this, in another way than an Eqauatin Driven Curve?
when i use this parametric equation, it comes up whith an error, saying it is unsolvable :-S

My math is a little rusty, is that a helix?

    • Klaus 10:15 am on June 9, 2011 Permalink

      Not exactly.
if you click on the image to view the complete picture, you can see the 3D-curve in the upper right viewport.

      If it was just a ”regular” helix ( x = a*cos(t) ; y = a * sin(t) ; z = b * t ) I would have done it with the spiral/helix feature :-)

    • afee451 10:28 am on June 9, 2011 Permalink

Ahhh, the rest of the picture helps. While its not particularly elegant, my usual fallback is “curve through xyz points”. You can import the points from a text file, so you can generate the curve outside of solidworks. I’ve used this technique for airfoil cross sections in the past. Just make sure you use enough points–don’t wanna give the spline solver any more creative license than you have to!

What a great idea to use curve through xyz poitns. i didn’t think of that.
      Thank you very much :-)

    Hello everyone.

As the company i am working with are thinking of investing in some injection mould simulation (Autodesk Moldflow or Moldex 3D) i would like to know, if there is anyone who are familiar with both of these apps?

i am pretty welknown with both Moldflow insight and Moldflow Adviser, but i have never tried Moldex 3D, which looks very good, because it works inside the SW invironment, and you do not have to export part-files to do the simulation etc.

I have tried to google some comparisson between moldflow and moldex3D, but i cannot find anything :(
but if anyone have some experience or so with especially Moldex 3D, I would be glad to know!

    Hi people.
What is the best format to use, when I export from Pro/E to SW?
I always use parasolid, when I export from solidworks, but i have experienced al ot of failures in the part geometry when i export from Pro/E to SolidWorks in parasolid.

    Hi.
Can anyone tell me, what i shall choose from the Hole Wizard -feature, to make a 1/8” whitworth thread?

I am only used to work with the metric system, but now i need to make an 1/8” thread in the end of a 6mm hole.

I have been looking in the ANSI INCH option to see if there is an 1/8′ thread, but i can’t find it there.

    Best regards, Klaus.

    • CBL 12:18 pm on March 1, 2011 Permalink

The Hole Wizard doesn’t support BSF or Whitworth threads. You will have to create a suitable tapping size hole, apply a Cosmetic Thread, and manually type the Whitworth specs in the Thread Callout box.

    • Klaus 2:04 pm on March 1, 2011 Permalink

      all right.
thank you for the answer :)

    Hi.
Is it somehow possible to make a Broken-out Section in a Section view?
I have made a section view (A-A) in an injection mold, and now I wan’t to make a Broken-out Section in the A-A section view, but SW will not allow me to.
If someone can tell me how to do this, i would be very glad :)

    Hi everybody.
as i am thinking of upgrading my hardware configuration, i would like to know, if anyone can tell what is the best of these two solutions?

    1 x nVidia Quadro 4000
    or
    2 x nVidia Quadro 2000

Beside SolidWorks, i also do a lot of rendering in PV 360 and Keyshot.

    @ Gupta:
When i upload the zip-file and the are pressing ”save changes”, the file dosent seems to apear with this post :(

Might be some upload issue. @Ben must be looking at it.

    Hi everyone.
I have a modelled a ”worm” (its for a fan) and i need to unfold it to a piece of sheet metal, so i can get the correct dimensions for cutting out the plate before bending etc.
dows anyone knows how to do that?
    thanks in advance¨
    Klaus

Can you attach the part to look at and suggest you something.

    • Klaus 4:36 am on November 10, 2010 Permalink

It comes woth an error when i try to attach the media. So i have uploaded the part (IGES-file), and here is a link for direct download:
      https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D820923_6635649_606411

    • gupta9665 5:43 am on November 10, 2010 Permalink

You need to zip the file before attaching here.

    • gupta9665 12:19 am on November 11, 2010 Permalink

I would suggest you to model it flat and then using flx command (Insert > Feature > Flex) bend/twist to required shape. SW currently can’t handle this types of bend OR use a 3rd party tool from FTI (http://www.forming.com/blankworks.htm)

    • Klaus 1:21 am on November 11, 2010 Permalink

Actually, i found out how to make the profile with two 3D.sketches and a lofted bend :)

    • gupta9665 1:38 am on November 11, 2010 Permalink

But problem with that is you can’t use guide curves :(

I tried making your part with that but that was not matching the exact geometry, hence didn’t suggested you that method.

    Hi everyone.
Does anyone knows if it is possible to add the result of an equation in the scale factor-area i the scale-feature?
    for example:
I have calculated a plastic shrinkage factor with the equation tool. lets say the result is 1,005025126.
now i wan’t to scale my model this. i know i off course just can copy/paste the number into the scale-feaure, but is there a way to choose the result of this equation in the scale-feaure? like it is possible to choose the result of an equation when adding a dimension etc.
i hope you understand my question :9
    Thanks in advance!

    best regards,
    Klaus Falk, Denmark.

    Hi SW-friends.
Does anyone knows how to change the color of the dimension-arrows in the Drawing documents?
Now they are grey, and instead of that, i want them to be for example green.
Have been looking in the options, but I can’t find out how to do it :(

    • gupta9665 10:36 pm on September 21, 2010 Permalink

You can change the color of complete dimension line but not the arrow heads alone. Tools > Options > Color

      Once again, Gupta:
Thank you very much for your help.
      I really appreciate it! :)

    Hi people.
Does anyone knows how to model a chain, which can run like it would do in real llife?
Have tried to make a belt/chain feature between two gears, and then mate a chain-link to the path, but the chain link dosent move, which i would like it to do.

    Hi everybody.
I am modeling an engine right now, and now i have some trouble with a cam mate, which will not work.
It comes up with an error, when i try to do the mate.
Does anyone knows what i am doing wrong, and how i can make it right?
Chekc the picture with the error-message.
I have tried to make the cam with a single spline (converted the entities to a fit spline) but that dosent worked either.

here is a link to the picture:

    F_cam_mate

    TIA
    Klaus

EDIT: i have found out what the problem was, and my cams run like a charm now :)

    Hello everyone.
when i will offset a surface, the default distance is 10 mm.
Does anyone knows how to change this, as i almost always use a distance of 0 (copy surface)

    • CBL 4:00 pm on June 10, 2010 Permalink

Go to Tools > Options > System Options > Spin Box Increments and set the required offset.

    • gupta9665 9:30 pm on June 10, 2010 Permalink

CBL, I doubt if 0 can be used there.

    • CBL 6:09 am on June 11, 2010 Permalink

gupta … you are correct. The minimum is .0001mm.

But the Spin Box Increments is the only way I know to change the default setting. It would be nice if SW offered a “Remember last setting” option. Time for an ER?

    • Klaus 7:59 am on June 11, 2010 Permalink

Thank you very much both of you :)
And CBL> Yes, that would be awesome if a setting like that would be available!!!!
