having nice new problem with SW since yesterday. I opened up an old assembly and when I hover over faces to select parts, the mouse picks up all the edges behind the faces! The parts are not transparent and I even turned off the option to select through transparency and it did not help. Anyone have any ideas? this is making my life extremely difficult right now. i’m on Sp4.0×64

I’m trying to create a belt with fixed length that runs between 2 fixed pulleys that each have a tensioner. Using the assembly feature for creating a fixed length belt only seems to allow for using one flexible tensioner as it would not work with 2. As soon as I fixed one it worked fine.
To get around the assembly feature’s apparent limitations I want to try modeling the belt with conventional methods but cannot seem to fix the belt length when it consists of 4 straight segments and 4 arcs. Pulley center-to-center and diameter, tensioner diameter and belt length are fixed. The main thing i’m trying to do is set the tensioners so that the belt runs parallel through the mid sections.I tried using an equation to derive the length of the mid section on tensioned side driven by all other lengths…didn’t work, over-defined sketch.
any ideas? Did I miss something in my constraints?

I have tried the assembly belt feature a few more times and noticed another problem i’m having. I have one fixed tensioner (just for testing) and one with only 1 DOF (pivoting around tensioner pivot location, no rotation of the pulley allowed. When create the belt path by selecting the appropriate pulleys and tensioners and then “try” to select “driving” belt length…I get an error saying that for driving belt length “at least one” of the components must have at least one DOF. Problem 1: one and only one of them do have 1 DOF. Problem 2: the error message says “at least one” hinting that it will accept 2 tensioners with each having 1 DOF…but I can’t get it to work with a driving length.
Edit 2:
I have since gotten it to work (seemingly at random) at accepting two tensioners but it will not put them horizontal, when I add a relation so that they are kept horizontal the belt length fails.
Still any help at creating a sketch driven by length would be great. Thanks!

I’m using 3D annotations to place an angular dimension in an assembly to monitor the angle between two components. currently when I place the dimension i am getting the compliment of the angle that I want (exp i want it to display 30deg and it is displaying 150deg). Is there any way to change the display of the angular dimension? I have not found it in the options

trying to model a bent pipe. I have a pipe created by extrude thin. I then have cuts in the bottom of the pipe to add relief for bending. Now I want to bend the pipe in a constant arc. I tried using the deform feature but the ends of the pipe do not remain perpendicular to the arc of the pipe. Anyone have an idea how to do this?
The cut sections also do not remain perpendicular to the arc, same problem as the ends. For example, when the pipe is cut perp to axis on bottom then bent along the top, the cut becomes a wedge shape, its not doing this, the top surface of the cut takes the shape of the new arc but the vertical sufaces remain vertical.

Having a problem. When i am in a part file, have a sketch shown, and doulbe click on a sketch segment, it no longer takes me to edit sketch mode?
Has anyone else had this problem?
Also my “R” key sometimes does not work to show me the recent documents.

Question on sketch blocks. I know how to use them in 2D, but since solidworks is a 3D program I would like to use them for a part with 3D. I tried creating a sketch block from a 3D sketch and no luck. Anyone have an idea how to do this?

RAM tip: I found a tool called MKN Memory Monitor (LINK). I’m using it to optimize my RAM usage and have noticed an increase in available RAM. Used to use about 1.7-1.8GB of 2GB, now am using 1.3-1.4GB with same file. Since I’m limited with the amount of RAM i have, this paid off. Let me know if you see the same improvement.
Edit: as i’ve continued to use the same assembly, the RAM usage has gone down from mid 1.3GB to now 1.09GB. This is of course with a large SW assembly in SW09.

Another question on threads…I’ve created a thread profile that I want to use with a sweep-cut on a helix. I use equations to define the profile based on the pitch and I would like to have this in my design library using the equations. Is there a way to do this? I can get the sketch into the DL as a block but the equations do not come in. Any ideas? thanks.

nVidia FX1700, Vista x64, SW09 ISSUES!
Does anyone have a working system with this configuration?
I’ve tried the “approved” drivers on the SW website and they do not work, can’t install first option, and 2nd option does not work. It wont refresh the entire screen. Also tried latest driver from nVidia, same problem.
Any Ideas?

Trying to use the appearance pane (expandable section of feature manager pane). I see the use in an assembly but I have not found the use for it in parts. Nothing I click on does anything. Does anyone know if this does anything in a part file?

Part Transparency Problem in Sub Assy.
Quick structure…
Assm 1
….Assm 2
……..PartWorking in Assm 1, I set Part to transparent to check a fastener length. Used RMB mentod (select transparency).
Now I cannot set part back to non transparent. When I RMB on a face it does not show the “select transparency” button depressed as it normally would. All Assm’s and Part are lightweight. When I open the Part or Assm 2 the part appears normal.
Note that this problem is with Real View ON. if I turn Real View OFF, the part is no longer transparent.
Any ideas on how to fix?
