Hi,  it’s few days a receive the message “could not initialize solidworks utilities” at the start. How to solve this problem?

    • gupta9665 9:35 pm on November 10, 2010 Permalink

Un-Check Utilities from Tools > Add In. By the way, do you have SolidWorks Standard, Professional or Premium.

    • gpengue 12:42 am on November 11, 2010 Permalink

      HI Gupta,
I’m still getting the message after I un-uncheck everything from tools > Add In. I’ve SW Professional 2010 x64 Edition SP4.0. Any other suggestion? Thank you,

    • gupta9665 9:30 pm on November 11, 2010 Permalink

In that case I would suggest you to a repair/reinstall.

It’s few days that we have installed SW10 and it seems that I’ve a problem
with filter on feature manager design tree.

When I filter components name in an assembly, I am able to filter the tree but
nothing happen on the graphic view.

It does not happen alway but when it happen
the only things I can do is to restart SW.

Anybody else face my same problem?

    Bye

Is the graphics card approved for SW2010?
If it is, did you update the graphics driver for SW2010?

    • CBL 5:57 am on May 7, 2010 Permalink

Did you perform a clean install or simply upgrade an earlier version?

    • gpengue 7:36 am on May 18, 2010 Permalink

      Thanks CBL,

Installation is clean, graphic card approved and I just recently updated all the driver. My SW10 is updated ti SP2.1.

I will really appreciate if u can help me to solve this, because is a tool that I used very often.

      Thanks

Hi, I’ve inserted some pictures (warning lable ) on the 3Dmodel door of a cabinet, but they disappear when I save as edrawing. Is there a way to show them on edrawing?

    Ciao

Is there a way to let a dimension like 112.4 to round up to 112.5 ?

    • Ben 10:09 am on March 19, 2010 Permalink

Sure make sure that that the number following the .4 is 5 or higher… You could control the rounding via a design table as well with a logic statement saying that all figures are to be rounded to the nearest .5 but all of that is kludgy. Why not change the dimension to 112.5?

    • CBL 7:13 am on March 21, 2010 Permalink

I agree with Ben. If you want a dimension to show a certain value, then size the model to suit.
      This isn’t AutoCAD … don’t cheat. ;o)

    • gpengue 7:45 am on March 22, 2010 Permalink

Because the dimensions refer to holes that are created distributed along a circumference, but the workshop asked me the x,y coordinate.

      Ciao

Can anybody explain me what is the logical of hierarchy in the pack and go window?

    • Brian 2:06 pm on January 19, 2010 Permalink

I am assuming you mean the nested view of files… If so, that is showing the relationship of the files, as an indented BOM, if you will.

    • gpengue 5:49 am on January 28, 2010 Permalink

      Thanks for your comments Brian,

Wha I do not understand is the order in which the components are listed in the pack an go window. It is completly mess-up and different from the tree of feature manager tree…why?

Is there a way to show some components in transparency in a 2D view?

    • gupta9665 5:31 am on July 9, 2009 Permalink

What exactly you mean by transparency. Do you mean hiding a particular part/sub assembly. If yes, then expand the feature tree. Go to the view and expand the list. RMB on the part/sub assembly and from the pop up window select Show/Hide > Hide Component.

    • CBL 7:21 am on July 9, 2009 Permalink

If you can use a shaded display mode it is simple. Just set the component to Transparent in the model.

I can’t alternate from isolate to show hidden component!
When I isolate certain components and than I switch to show hidden components
    to shown others, everythings disappear!…
This is happening after installation of SW09. Lot’s of coflicts…also with DWGeditor

    • gupta9665 5:21 am on June 30, 2009 Permalink

Can you put down the exact steps one after next when you are using isolate . A video will be great. Or if you add any pictures. Also what is your SP for SW09.

    • CBL 1:11 pm on June 30, 2009 Permalink

I use Isolate frequently, but rarely use the Show Hidden Items option. However, some quick tests on various assys worked perfectly.

If you are having issues with SW09, perhaps you should either repair or clean re-install.

with the new version of SW09 “option”, allow to select layer to create note and dimension direfctly on the destination layer…..but it does not work!!!

    • CBL 7:07 pm on June 18, 2009 Permalink

It does not work properly for me either. The layers can be created and the options set, but only the active layer accepts the note, dimension or whatever.

I never use layers, but at first glance it appears to be a bug or issue or unfinshed enhancement … whatever, it doesn’t work as expected.

I inserted a part/body inside another part. Is it possible to replace it?
Another question: How do you update the external reference when there is a question mark?

Is there a way to include the componet of a sub-assembly inside the BOM?

    Thank you

    • Chris Serran 1:57 pm on March 24, 2009 Permalink

Open up the sub-assembly. In the configurations tab, right click and select properties on the configuration used in the main assembly.
Uncheck “Don’t show child components in BOM when used as a sub-assembly”.
You may have to exclude any items from the BOM if you don’t want them to show up in the main assembly BOM.

    Tags: Table

Anybody can explain the strange behaviour of table?
Sometime when I drag the column side to adjust the width of the single column, I will modify the width of all columns!
I do not understand where I should drag to modify only one column wisth.

    Thank You

    • MarkKaiser 3:37 pm on March 16, 2009 Permalink

Hit the save button before every resize… Yeah, not fun. Having table functionality to be more like Excel was a popular request on SW’s “Top Ten Enhancment” request list, so hopefully it’ll get some attention.

I honestly don’t know of a solution, so if someone does, by all means, please share!

    • Mark.Short 12:48 pm on March 17, 2009 Permalink

Right click the column, choose “format” “column width” and specify the width.

    • MarkKaiser 6:10 pm on March 17, 2009 Permalink

There’s a discussion going on in the SW forums about this also, has some possible helpful hints.

I know that this is just a work around for the problem. We have found that if you drag one column and let it resize the entire table then hit the undo or ctrl z. Now when you resize the columns they will size per column. Hope this helps.

Is there a way to delete the folder with a star on it, without deleting the corresponding smart component? I ask this because I tried to delete the smart feature inside my part, but I could not put it back because the star did not appear again.
    Thank you

    • admin 3:23 pm on March 16, 2009 Permalink

What exactly are you trying to do here? Are you trying to get rid of the smart component functionality in a assembly or are you trying to get the smart component functionality back from a smart component feature that you have deleted?

    • gpengue 7:22 am on March 18, 2009 Permalink

I’m trying to get rid of smart component funcionality in the assembly without removing the smart component itself from the assembly. Is there a way?

      Thank you

Is there a way to attach a note linked to the view scale? I would like to show a custom scale of any drawing view. Thank you

    • MarkKaiser 2:20 pm on March 9, 2009 Permalink

      Try the below macro,

      http://sw.fcsuper.com/index.php?name=UpDownload&req=viewsdownload&sid=3

Haven’t used it, just found it. The catch is it doesn’t automatically update if the view scale changes.

There’s no way to do this in SW w/o macro.

    • bagsas 11:00 pm on March 9, 2009 Permalink

I have used that macro and it works good. You are able to have up to two lines describing the view and able to add the view scale. Worth looking at.

    • gpengue 7:12 am on March 11, 2009 Permalink

I dowloaded the macro, but it did not work. Any special way to make it work?

    • bagsas 11:25 pm on March 11, 2009 Permalink

Trying to upload it. Just unzip it where you want to keep it and when inside a drawing file got to tools, run macro, point to the file and it should work. Must be in drawing file first.Attachment – addviewlabel

    Tags: cut list

Sometime I get the balloon of cut list always
with Item number 1? how to settle this issue!

    • Chris Serran 9:01 am on January 29, 2009 Permalink

Did you delete the cut list in the drawing and then re-insert it?
That will reset all the balloons to 1.

    • gpengue 5:40 am on January 30, 2009 Permalink

      Hi Chris,

You mean I should delete the cut list and re-insert so it will not be all 1? Do u know if the cut list is linked to a specified view
      or conficurations?
      Thanks

    • Chris Serran 7:41 am on January 30, 2009 Permalink

      No don’t delete it.
However, at any time did you delete the cut list while working in the drawing? Deleting an existing cut list will reset the balloons.

Cut lists are linked to the configuration in the view you selected when inserting it.
Try setting the views you’re inserting the balloons to, to the same configuration as the view the cut list is attached to.

    Tags: associative dimensions

Hi, I’m facing the following problem:
I’ve one part model that is a weldment part. I need to fill up all the data inside
the properties of each body in the weldment-cut list, but for some reason I can’t select the dimension from the feature. E.g.: I insert the property length in the cut-list properties window then I move the prompt inside the cell value, I go with the cursor on the graphic area and select the feature. All the feature dimensions appear but I can’t select with the mouse and insert it in the properties value cell.

    • admin 12:09 pm on December 24, 2008 Permalink

You need to double click the dimension, gave you done that?

    • gpengue 1:31 pm on December 24, 2008 Permalink

No matter how many times I click I can’t select it. This is happening only with this particular part model that has been passed to me for some modification. With all my previous part model I do not have this problem.

      Sincerely

    • admin 3:37 pm on December 24, 2008 Permalink

Unfortunately the screams of a corrupt file. Try saving it closing it, re-open and then try again.

    • gol10dr 8:53 pm on December 30, 2008 Permalink

Are you trying to insert a property into the File, Properties window? or are you trying to do it for a body specify property? It should work but what version of SW are you running and what SP?

    • gpengue 4:52 am on December 31, 2008 Permalink

It’s a weldment part and I tried to insert property for single body.
e.g.: a body that is a beam (non standard) I want to have a property
linked to length. I usually insert the property name, then move the prompt in the cell value and click with the mouse on the beam in the graphic area. The dimension appear but when I hover with the cursor on dimension it will not highlight, it seems unselcetable.
All this happen with parts coming from another user. I thought was a kind of option. But, no results..
      I’m using SW08
