Adding new features while feature mgr design tree is in roll back state

When I roll back the feature mgr design tree and want to add a new feature, the feature is added not above the roll back bar, but as the last feature at the very bottom of the tree.
Is there an option that can be changed so that new features added in the roll back state will be added before the roll back bar?

That does not seem right to me. I have features added to the end of the tree where the roll back line is. What version of SW are you using?

Im using 2012. This is something that has been happening recently when working on files from a customer. The files were originally created in an older version, not sure which exactly — 2010 I think.. I then save them to 2012.

If I’m working with files that I create from scratch, this problem does not occur. If it’s a glitch or bug that I’m going to have to live with while working on these specific files–then so be it.

I was just wondering if there were some sort of option in somewhere like document properties where you could configure how you want new features to be added when working in a roll back state. If no such option exists, then I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.

I just installed SW2010. I have been using SW2006 up until now. When I try to open my 2006 files, I am told that the files are read only. How do I enable write access for these files. I want to save them as 2010 files.

Do you have rights to modify these files. If yes then right click on then and select properties. Then in the pop dialog box uncheck read only. And finally click OK to apply the changes. You can select multiple files at same time and do this.

    SW on Mac question:
I have a 15″ MBP 320Gb drive, 4Gb mem, 2.53Ghz processor. Purchased mid 2009. I’m looking to bootcamp it and put Solidworks 2010 on it. I have a couple of questions though.

    • Can I use Windows XP? I hear that Windows Vista and 7 are recommended, why?
    • What should the partition size be for the Windows portion of the drive? (may also install MasterCAM and Windows Office if feasible)
    • I’ve read some things about the graphics card being an issue, will I need to upgrade?
    • Should I install windows 32 or 64 bit?

You should have no problems installing either 64 or 32 bit. The graphic card issues come up with realview functionality only. I generally have that turned off anyhow die to it just being eye candy for the most part. Depending on what you plan on working on for file size and what on the local machine will determine the size of the partition. I myself use 100Gigs but maybe consider a 50/50 split.

      Hope that helps

That’s great news, very helpful thanks! How about the Windows version? Is XP a good option or should I go with 7? (I want to avoid Vista)

I would go with Win7 and 64 bit

    Sheet Metal — Edge-Flange problem

Is there a way to edit the angle for the first Edge-Flange feature that is created within a part?
My part has multiple edge-flange features built on each other and I can edit all the angle value for each edge-flange in the feature manager except for the first one. This is really frustrating because my design needs all the edge-flange angles to be equal. Instead of simply being able to edit the angle values in the feature manager design tree, I essentially have to recreate my edge-flanges with new angle values. There has to be a better way!

ps. I’m running 2006 (ancient history)

Hi, I’m making a sheet metal part and I am using the Edge-Flange feature. The part is a seat back for a chair and I’m using the Edge-Flange to create multiple bends to form a faceted curve. I want to be able to edit the angle within the Edge-Flange feature manager so I can see what the part looks like with more or less over all curve. I have no problem editing the angles, except for the first Edge-Flange. When I open the feature manager, the angle value is grayed out and it won’t let me change it. Is there any way to get around this?

ps. I’m running 2006, so maybe that’s my problem

Hi– I just signed up. I viewed your video tutorial on how to surface model a handle using 3 different methods. It was great. I saw the video on archive.org. I was looking for a link to the video tutorials here on solidjott.com and couldn’t find it. Can you please tell me where they are? thanks

On the right side of the page there’s a drop down menu labeled “Categories”, select Video and the page will refresh with all the videos Ben has posted here.
